Yesterday at 9.01pm (June 12th) Facebook opened it’s doors to allow users to create a vanity URL i.e. www.facebook.com/garygraye
In the first 15 minutes of allowing users to claim their own vanity URL Facebook had more than they 500,000 registrations.
In my previous post Grab Your Facebook Username I had doubts about their servers being able to cope with the sudden influx of requests. I need not have worried as they did not appear to wobble or have any issues.
I was one of the 500,000, and creating my username could not have been any simpler.
My only problem was that as I”m in Manchester UK which is 8 hours in front of California, I had to be up at 5.00 am (Saturday Morning) to stake my claim.
The only time I usually see 5.00am is when I”m either on a plane travelling or I’ve been partying all night.
OK so last night I decided to stay up till 5.ooam with my partner Dawn Pugh and needless to say we had a drink or 3. We made it till 3.45am then our bed started shouting at us to get in it.
Well what could we do?
We both agreed that it would be rude to not comply with the beds request.
1 hour later my trusty alarm brought me back from the dead and I was able to get on line at the required time to register www.facebook.com/dawnpugh and www.facebook.com/garygraye
If you’ve not got yours yet, then you might want to go to Facebook Username and stake your claim.
On a downside I feel that Facebook should have made a better effort to stop the squatters from getting those URLS that quite clearly did not belong them.
Heyho that’s life. Unless you’re one of those people who it happened to.
Thats all folks
Gary
p.s. After completing the registrations I once again had to comply with the beds request to get back in it and sleep for a few more hours.Happy days
.
