I’ve had my iPhone 3 G for about 8 months now and I can say that I am very satisfied with it.
I’ve had a mobile phone for the last 17 years and I can safely say that my iPhone 3G is the best phone I’ve ever owned. It just works!
On Friday June 19th 09 the new iPhone 3G S is being launched and I must say that it has a couple features that I would be interesting to have.
However, it is unlikely that I will upgrade to Apple’s latest offering as my UK provider O2 have made it really prohibitive for O2 contract users to upgrade to the new model.
Let me explain. I still have 10 months of my existing O2 contract left to run at a cost of $56 per month.
Now if I want to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G S then I have to pay off my existing contract which equates to $560 (10 month @ $56 per month).
I then have to pay $300 for the new iPhone and enter into a new 18 month contract at $56 per month.
When you consider that if I wanted a sim only deal on the same tariff with O2 then the cost would be only $33 per month.
Therefore all iPhone users in the UK pay an additional $23 per month just for the privelidge.
So the bottom line is this……………….
If I want to upgrade to the new iPhone 3GS then my costs will be $860 and I am still committed to another 18 month contract.
Will I upgrade?
$860 for a couple of enhancements………….What do you think?
All for now
Gary
ps. When I tried to update my iPhone to the latest iPhone 3 operating system, it failed do to Apple’s server crash.
pps. Dont get me wrong, my beef is not with Apple its with O2 and it’s policies for upgrading Apple iPhones
